Climatic Porosity
A proposal for a laboratory that provides opportunities for research and education
The unique setting of the Missouri Ozarks contains diverse ecologies creating ideal research and teaching settings within a beautiful landscape.
By looking at the geometry and climatic response of natural systems and native organisms, such as the foliose lichen, the project began to build formal and operative logics. The natural landscape was studied in terms of topography, climate, and material conditions, both analytically through their microclimates and expressively in a response to their horizons.
The conceptual implications were informed by the biological conditions of a local species of foliose lichen, utilizing inherent characteristics and adaptations to become a performative structure that is integrated into the landscape.
